CURRICULUM

All courses have certain core hours that students are required to attend. Other hours are flexible and will be arranged by the director and each student, in conjunction with school facility. This allows a student to complete a course within a general time span rather than any specific number of weeks or months.

BASIC DOG EDUCATOR/TRAINER

Course 201

160 HOURS / $1,800.00 plus $100 registration fee

DESCRIPTION:
The
Basic Dog Trainer Course is for someone who wants a basic knowledge of dog training and hands on dog training. This course includes some of the topics that are covered in the Professional Dog Educator/Trainer Course. Students can complete this course on a part-time or full-time schedule. Upon completion of this course a Basic Dog Educator/Trainer Certificate will be awarded.


OBJECTIVE
:
To prepare students to be able to work in a kennel or a training facility, or assist in the teaching of group classes
.

TOPICS INCLUDE

  • Identifying and learning the difference between various AKC and UKC breeds
  • Influences on the Dog's Learning
  • Basic Obedience Commands: Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Go To Place.
  • Rules of Dog Behavior
  • Differences between traditional dog training, food training and clicker training.
  • Dog sports, competitions and trials.

480 HOURS - $4800.00 plus $100 registration fee.

The Dog Educator/ Trainer Course is recommended for students who want to make dog training their career. The focus is on solving behavior problems, client relations and training the family pet. Upon completion of this course, the student will be certified as a PROFESSIONAL DOG EDUCATOR/ TRAINER.

ADVANCED DOG EDUCATOR/TRAINER

160 HOURS / $1,900.00

DESCRIPTION:
The Advanced Dog Educator Trainer Course will broaden students' teaching skills and prepare them to deal with more behavioral problems in dogs. A part- time or full-time schedule is offered for this course. In order to take this course one must be enrolled in or have successfully completed Jo-Thor's Professional Dog Educator/Trainer Course. This course can be integrated with the Professional Dog Educator/Trainer. Upon completion of this course the student will be certified by state approved Jo-Thor's Dog Trainers’ Academy as an Advanced Dog Educator/Trainer.

OBJECTIVE:
To provide graduates of the Professional Dog Educator/Trainer with more time to improve skills, more hands-on experience and education in dog training, teaching small group lessons, commands, and behavioral problem solving.

DESCRIPTION:
The Master Dog Educator/Trainer Course will provide students with a greater knowledge of advanced dog obedience commands, trick and agility training. A part-time or full-time schedule is offered for this course. In order to take this course one must have successfully completed the Professional Dog Educator/Trainer and the Advanced Dog Educator/Trainer. Upon completion of this course the student will be certified as Master Dog Educator/Trainer by Jo-Thor's Dog Trainers’ Academy.

OBJECTIVE:
To teach students advanced training methods including off-leash education, developing a training program, teaching beginner and intermediate group lessons, AKC Companion Dog certification training and advanced agility and tricks. Schutzhund skills will be taught for those wishing to study protection training.
